Dear Civil War Reenactor or Fellow Civil War Enthusiast:

On May 12-14, 2000, over 1,000 reenactors portraying the Missouri State Guard and Franz Sigel’s Union troops gathered at Civil War Arena to reenact the July 5, 1861 Battle of Carthage, the first major land battle of the War Between the States. The 2000 reenactment was the first reenactment ever held on the actual battleground. Use of the site was donated by Civil War Ranch Arenas. The event was organized by Battle of Carthage, Inc. and co-hosted by the 3rd Missouri Cavalry (Dismounted), CSA and the 4th Missouri Infantry, CSA. The event was a sanctioned maximum effort event by the Missouri Civil War Reenactor’s Association. Major financial contributors included Leggett & Platt, Incorporated; the Steadley Foundation; Checkett & Pauly law firm; Shook, Hardy & Bacon law firm; Bryan Cave law firm; and many other law firms in Carthage and Joplin. The field commanders were General John Beck (MSG) and Col. Stan Prater (USA).

For after action reports of the reenactor officers and photos, please see the above links.

We hope to see you on the field for our next reenactment May 13-15, 2011. 2011 Reenactment Information
